Jay’e Jones, a Joshua Tree–based tattoo artist and former roommate of Tera Wray Static, has released a public statement regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding Matt Zane’s unauthorized documentary about Tera and her late husband, Wayne Static of Static-X.

According to Jones, Wayne and Tera repeatedly and clearly expressed their wish for Zane (a close friend) to tell their story. He states that the documentary was not a vague idea, but a long-discussed project both were committed to, especially following Wayne’s death. Jones claims Tera safeguarded personal recordings and materials specifically for that purpose.

After Tera’s death, Jones says he returned all of Wayne’s belongings to Wayne Static’s parents and informed them of the couple’s original intention to work with Zane. Years later, Jones participated in what he believed was that same project, only to learn the direction had changed and Zane was no longer involved.

Jones concludes that his statement is not about sides or opinions, but about honoring the expressed wishes of Wayne and Tera. The statement comes amid continued objections from the Wayne Static estate, while Matt Zane has publicly stated the documentary will proceed.
