Swedish gothic doom torchbearers Draconian return with their eighth studio album, In “Somnolent Ruin”, set for release on May 8, 2026 via Napalm Records. Six years after “Under a Godless Veil”, the band re-emerge with what promises to be one of their most personal and introspective works to date.
At the heart of the album lies a dreamlike exploration of Plato’s theory of the soul—an idea that surfaced organically during the writing process. Crafted once again by Johan Ericson, “In Somnolent Ruin” blends classic doom foundations with ambient textures, dark folk influences, and the unmistakable gothic atmosphere that defines Draconian’s sound.
The album also marks the official return of longtime vocalist Lisa Johansson, who originally fronted the band’s first five records. Reuniting with Anders Jacobsson, Johansson’s presence restores the dual-vocal dynamic that shaped Draconian’s early era. With the current lineup touring together since 2022—including drummer Daniel Johansson and guitarist Niklas Nord—the record carries a renewed sense of cohesion and live intensity.
Both Johan Ericson and Anders Jacobsson describe the album as a challenging but transformative journey, one shaped by doubt, introspection, and gradual revelation. That struggle, they suggest, is precisely what gives “In Somnolent Ruin” its depth.
After years of evolution and change, Draconian return not by reinventing themselves—but by descending deeper into their own shadow.
