Finnish industrial metal force KING SATAN have unleashed their new single “Fire in the Hole,” offering another taste of their fifth studio album, Black Magick Abraxas, arriving November 6.
Following their summer cover of Britney Spears’ “(You Drive Me) Crazy” and the Erja Lyytinen collaboration “Black Magick Rock ’N’ Roll,” the self-described “death metal disco” outfit once again take an unexpected turn. This time, inspiration comes courtesy of two long-dead philosophers: Søren Kierkegaard and Diogenes.
According to King Aleister Satan, the idea emerged from a bizarre dream in which he was drinking with the two philosophers, who convinced him to create a song based on their writings. That surreal encounter eventually evolved into a deliberately absurd experiment with ’90s-influenced electronic bounce metal, recalling some of the spirit of KING SATAN’s debut album.
The accompanying music video embraces the same strange energy, taking the action to Nekala Cultural Centre in Tampere for a suitably chaotic gathering.
“Fire in the Hole” arrives as KING SATAN prepare for the release of Black Magick Abraxas, a nine-track record that continues the band’s collision of industrial metal, electronic experimentation, dark philosophy and unapologetic absurdity.
