Finnish dark metal act Torchia has unveiled the video for ‘Stygian Waters‘, the first glimpse into their forthcoming fourth full-length album ‘They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness‘, due out in May 2026 via Rockshots Records.
“Stygian Waters” marks a deliberate turn back toward the band’s early, guitar-driven aggression while amplifying the cinematic and melodic darkness that has come to define Torchia’s sound. Rooted in thrash-infused melodic death metal, the track surges forward with relentless riffing and urgent rhythms, wrapped in a thick gothic and occult atmosphere.
Inspired by imagery of a violent, unforgiving sea, the song unfolds as a narrative of maritime catastrophe, where human resolve collides with overwhelming natural forces, and something far darker may lurk beneath the surface. This blend of physical danger and supernatural suggestion fits squarely within Torchia’s cursed fantasy universe, shaped by ancient gods, grim rituals, and gothic horror sensibilities.
Musically, the single highlights the band’s evolution: sharp, driving guitars remain central, while layered arrangements and shadowed tones add dramatic weight. It’s a balance that reflects the wider vision of They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness, an album steeped in murky, 19th-century gothic imagery and cinematic storytelling.
With “Stygian Waters”, Torchia reaffirm their position in the darker reaches of extreme metal, where raw intensity, atmosphere, and narrative ambition move as one.
