Italian symphonic power metal outfit TEMPERANCE have unveiled “Death: Right Before We Die,” the second single from their upcoming album Arcani, due out October 16, 2026 via Napalm Records.

Drawing further from the album’s Tarot-inspired concept, the track takes on the card of Death—but its origins are rooted in a very real brush with danger. While the band were having dinner in Tallinn during Sabaton Cruise 2024, the restaurant they were in caught fire. Later that same day, guitarist Marco Pastorino wrote the melody that would eventually become the emotional mid-tempo track.

Vocalist Kristin Starkey explains:

“This song is about facing the inevitable ‘end’ not with despair, but by anchoring ourselves in the profound beauty of human connection and the love we share in the present moment.”

Rather than treating Death purely as an ending, the song turns toward survival, acceptance, and the importance of being present while there is still time.

With “Death: Right Before We Die,” TEMPERANCE transform an unsettling real-life experience into a reminder that mortality does not only represent an ending—it can also make the moments before it feel infinitely more valuable.
