Finnish fantasy folk metal band Vetten Äpärät have broken their silence with a new single and music video, “Äiti” (Mother), offering the first glimpse into their long-awaited sophomore album, “Virkos Veren Kasteesta,” scheduled for release in 2027.

The new track explores a deeply emotional and unsettling subject, telling the story of a child growing up in an abusive home environment. Unable to process the traumatic experiences surrounding them, the child retreats into an imaginary world as a means of psychological escape.

Through its dark storytelling, “Äiti” brings a particularly human dimension to the band’s fantasy-driven musical universe, using imagination not simply as an adventure, but as a refuge from unbearable reality.

The upcoming album continues the themes established on Vetten Äpärät’s 2016 debut, “Syntyi Talven Kyynelistä.”Drawing inspiration from the unforgiving northern wilderness, the record explores humanity’s struggle against nature and the desire to conquer forces beyond its control.

Founded in Helsinki in 2007, Vetten Äpärät combine heavy metal with icy melodies, dark atmospheres and nature-inspired fantasy narratives. Despite numerous lineup changes during their early years, the band have maintained a stable lineup for more than a decade.

The current formation consists of Sami Ferm (vocals, composition), Anton Nisonen (drums), Leo Lemmetty (guitar), Aleksi Kulmala (lead guitar) and Jarmo Luopa (bass, vocals). Ferm and Nisonen remain the band’s only original members.

With nearly eleven years separating their debut album and its upcoming successor, “Virkos Veren Kasteesta” marks a long-awaited return for the Helsinki-based group.
