Finnish alternative rock and metal outfit Block of Flats have released their new single, “What’s Your Excuse?,”continuing their collaboration with Blind Channel’s Alex Mattson and Niko Moilanen. The track also features production contributions from Jonas Olsson and Rami Nykänen.

Following their previous single, “I Stand Below It All,” the new release sees the band stepping away from traditional rock and metal clichés while maintaining their heavier musical identity.

“‘What’s Your Excuse?’ feels really fresh to us because we deliberately left out traditional rock and metal clichés without losing the song’s rock and metal DNA,” the band explain.

The track carries a motivational message about overcoming hesitation, leaving excuses behind and finally pursuing what truly matters.

An accompanying music video was created by Aleksi Hakala of Hakalight.

The release arrives ahead of an exciting new chapter for Block of Flats, who will join Blind Channel’s “Painstream” European and UK tour in February 2027 as special guests.

Having previously toured Europe with The Rasmus and The Funeral Portrait in 2025, the band are preparing a heavier and darker live show for the upcoming dates.

The group have also undergone a lineup change following the departure of longtime bassist Kauri Koponen in September. After nearly a decade together, the musicians parted ways amicably, with Block of Flats continuing as a trio for the time being.

Despite the change, the band remain confident about their future, describing their current lineup as more focused and united than ever.

With new music, a refreshed lineup and another international tour approaching, Block of Flats are building momentum for 2027.
