Northern Michigan doom metal newcomers Mothertomb have announced the release of their debut full-length album, Dying to Live, arriving on July 14, 2026. Blending traditional doom metal with stoner rock, heavy psych, sludge, gothic atmosphere, and progressive influences, the independent quartet delivers five expansive tracks exploring themes of suffering, transformation, and the struggle between darkness and light.

Inspired by Welsh folklore and the darker corners of the human psyche, Dying to Live also draws its identity from the devastating ice storm that struck Northern Michigan in 2025. Witnessing forests encased in thick ice—both beautiful and destructive—inspired the band’s name, Mothertomb, reflecting the emotional contrasts found throughout the album.

Written, recorded, produced, and artistically directed entirely by the band, Dying to Live is a fully independent release and a testament to their DIY approach. Ahead of the album’s release, Mothertomb have already gained attention within the underground metal scene with the singles “Beware” and “Mountain Hag.”
