New heavy metal project Black Athame have unleashed their debut single, “Ascent,” featuring renowned drummer John Tempesta. Released on October 16, 2026, the track introduces a band rooted in classic hard rock and heavy metal, with a modern twist.
Black Athame brings together Barcelona-based vocalist LeeLoo, originally from Long Island, and Chicago-based British guitarist and bassist Andrew Bordoni.
The project was born from Bordoni’s ambition to combine decades of musical influences, drawing inspiration from legendary guitarists such as Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, John Norum and Yngwie Malmsteen, alongside contemporary bands including Castle Rat and Lucifer.
“Black Athame was born from my desire to combine the many musical influences I’ve had over the years,” Bordoni explains.
Finding the right voice was equally important.
“When it came to finding a singer to work with, LeeLoo ticked all the boxes with her incredible voice and range, but we also shared the same vision for the lyrics and themes. It was a no-brainer from the moment we got started, and ‘Ascent’ is just the beginning.”
The debut single also features John Tempesta behind the drum kit, adding another notable name to the project’s introduction.
“We had a blast writing and recording this song with the help of the incredible John Tempesta on drums!” Bordoni adds.
