There’s no hesitation in Blackment’s latest move—“In Motion” arrives fast, sharp, and unapologetically direct. The Finnish melodic metal outfit have released the new single and accompanying video as a first glimpse into their upcoming second studio album, set for release on June 12.

Originally founded in 2014 but truly stepping into the spotlight with their 2022 debut Plains of Oblivion, Blackment now continue their ascent with a sound that leans further into drama, energy, and precision.

“In Motion is tightly packed energy in under three minutes—just enough to make you want to hit repeat,” says guitarist Allan Välimaa. “At times it cools down, then suddenly explodes again with the chorus.”

The track itself carries an interesting origin. What began as a forgotten melodic idea in Välimaa’s archives was reshaped into something entirely new—rebuilt, refined, and ultimately turned into one of the album’s most immediate moments.

The story behind the video, however, adds another layer. During filming, Välimaa was unknowingly dealing with burnout, only realizing it afterward. Despite that, the shoot was completed—thanks in part to vocalist Hille Sadehelmi, who stepped behind the camera when needed, turning the production into a true all-hands effort.

“There were some chaotic moments,” Välimaa recalls with a hint of humor. “We even left a bunch of gear in the parking lot—but luckily found everything the next morning.”

With another single still to come before the album’s release, Blackment are building momentum toward what promises to be a heavier and more refined follow-up to their debut.

The band will celebrate the new record live on June 12 at Hyvinkää Rock 2026, stepping onto the stage with fresh material in hand.
