Finnish nu metal outfit Kosto continues its upward trajectory with the release of its powerful new single, “Kuka?”(“Who?”). Serving as the second preview of the band’s upcoming EP, the track dives headfirst into themes of war, injustice, and an increasingly dystopian world, ultimately revolving around one haunting question: Who will be the last to die?
Known for combining heavy grooves with Finnish-language lyrics and socially conscious themes, Kosto once again channels frustration and uncertainty into an explosive musical statement.
“I try to write about current events,” explains vocalist and lyricist Jarno Hyökyvaara. “I follow what’s happening in the world, sometimes from a very pessimistic and dystopian perspective. The lyrics for Kuka? started taking shape in spring 2025, but it took several more months before the song found its final form. Unfortunately, today’s world offers plenty of war and tragedy to draw inspiration from. This song is a way of giving injustice the middle finger and releasing anxiety and frustration.”
Musically, the track showcases a slightly different side of the band. According to guitarist Sami Selei, the song balances its serious message with a more playful groove.
“‘Niuniu’—the song’s working title—introduces a slightly more mischievous side of Kosto without losing sight of the message. Japi once again put the finishing touches on it with great precision. It was the first of our newer songs that the whole band completed together from start to finish.”
“Kuka?” follows the band’s previous releases while offering another glimpse into the forthcoming EP, scheduled for release later this year. Beyond the new record, Kosto has also hinted that work has already begun on the band’s first full-length album.
To celebrate the release, the band will hit the road for their Kuka? Mitä? Missä? Tour 2026, kicking off with a performance at the official Tuska Festival afterparty at On The Rocks in Helsinki.
