Based in Jyväskylä, Nemecic—representing the slightly rougher edge of the melodic death metal spectrum—is stirring from its slumber. The reason? The band is about to release its first new track since the 2021 full-length The Last Magic in Practice.

“The Chalice of Rot” is the first single taken from an EP set to drop in late 2026. Guitarist Tuomo Salonen comments on the track—recorded, mixed and mastered by Teemu Liekkala (Rioghan, Red Eleven etc.)—as follows:

“I guess you could say ‘finally!’. As is tradition for us, things stretched out a bit… and somehow the gap between releases ended up being almost five years.

But yeah, the song! According to the captain’s log, ‘The Chalice of Rot’ was first kicked off sometime in 2023, so this brew has been fermenting in some form for quite a while now. If I remember correctly, we were still tweaking the final arrangement pretty much down to the wire, since we just couldn’t get the verses to click—but in the end, the solution came from a good old-fashioned stomp, very much our style.

I think we’ve mentioned before that so-called ‘melodeath’ is a pretty well-chewed bone by now, and our influences on the melodic death side come from somewhere else than the In Flames/Soilwork axis. But hey, you’ve gotta try everything—so on this track’s chorus we probably get as close to Soilwork as we ever have, or ever will. There’s clean singing, harmonies, all that stuff.

As a counterbalance, the middle section hits back with a pretty gnarly riff—so yeah, safe to say we’re still not heading to Eurovision just yet.”
