Modern metal giants Five Finger Death Punch have unveiled new details about their highly anticipated tenth studio album. Titled Legacy, the ten-track record is set for release on July 31 via Better Noise Music, marking both the band’s 20th anniversary and another major milestone in a career that has made them one of the biggest names in contemporary heavy music.

Alongside the album announcement, the band has released its second single, “De Oppresso Liber,” accompanied by an official music video. The track follows the release of “Eye of the Storm,” which introduced fans to the band’s next musical chapter earlier this year.

Guitarist and founding member Zoltan Bathory describes De Oppresso Liber as more than just a song title.

“De Oppresso Liber is more than a motto. It’s a calling and a philosophy. It represents the duty to stand between danger and those who cannot defend themselves. Throughout human history, there have always been heroes willing to carry that responsibility. This song is a tribute to them and to that ideal.”

As Five Finger Death Punch celebrates two decades together, Legacy serves as both a reflection on the band’s journey and a statement about where they are headed next.

“Every album is a snapshot of who we were at that moment in time,” Bathory explains. “Legacy is exactly what its name suggests. It’s a look back at the journey, the lessons, the victories, the setbacks, and the experiences we’ve gathered over the last twenty years.”

He is quick to acknowledge that the band’s success has always been shared with its audience.

“The most meaningful part is that we never walked this road alone. Millions of fans around the world have been part of this journey, and over the years we’ve become part of each other’s lives. Looking back after twenty years, that’s an incredible feeling.”

Frontman Ivan Moody sees Legacy not as a celebration of the past, but as the beginning of a new chapter.

“Twenty years is a major milestone, but it’s not the finish line. We’re especially proud of this album because it contains everything people know and love about Five Finger Death Punch while also pointing toward the future. We’ve never believed there was a ceiling to what we could achieve. Every goal we’ve reached has simply revealed another horizon beyond it.”

According to Bathory, fans can also expect some of the band’s heaviest material in years.

“The new material is heavier than anything we’ve done in a long time. We had three years to work on this record and really refine it. We initially wrote nearly thirty songs before narrowing it down to the final selection. At one point, we even considered making it a double album.”

He believes Legacy captures both the band’s origins and its future.

“This is our tenth studio album while also celebrating our twentieth anniversary, so we knew we had to deliver something big. What excites me most is hearing the rawness and aggression of our early records return while still exploring completely new territory. It doesn’t feel like nostalgia—it feels like coming home. I can’t wait to see what the next decade brings.”
