Mongolian folk metal pioneers The HU continue building momentum toward the release of their upcoming third studio album HUN with the arrival of their latest single, “Grey Hun,” accompanied by a brand-new music video.
Following the band’s recent collaboration with Nothing More vocalist Jonny Hawkins on “Lost Soul,” the new track once again showcases The HU’s signature ability to merge traditional Mongolian music with modern rock and metal while delivering a meaningful message.
According to vocalist Enkush, Grey Hun is an anthem of self-acceptance.
“Grey Hun encourages everyone to embrace themselves exactly as they are. Everything began with a guitar riff I wrote while imagining a man riding his horse across a vast landscape. Finishing the song took time because we wanted to make sure its positive message came across as clearly as possible.”
The single offers another glimpse into HUN, which will be released on July 24. The album continues The HU’s mission of bringing Mongolia’s musical heritage to a global audience through their unique fusion of traditional instruments, throat singing, and heavy rock.
The band recently wrapped up a successful North American tour supporting Apocalyptica, but their touring schedule is only getting busier. Before returning to the United States later this summer for a run of shows with Rob Zombie, The HU will also perform alongside Iron Maiden at EddFest. Following their North American dates, the band will head to the United Kingdom and Europe for another tour with Nordic folk collective SKÁLD.
Reflecting on the upcoming album, the band says they wanted to take their time to ensure every detail was right.
“We wanted to make this album exactly the way we envisioned it, and we’re incredibly happy that years of work are finally ready to be shared with the world. Right now we’re also focusing on our live performances and building a completely new setlist. We want to play bigger stages so we can create an even more spectacular production, incorporate more elements of Mongolian culture into our shows, and share that experience with our fans. And even though our third album hasn’t been released yet, we already have exciting ideas for the next one.”
With HUN just around the corner and an extensive international tour on the horizon, The HU continue to cement their position as one of modern metal’s most distinctive and globally recognized acts, carrying Mongolian culture to ever-larger audiences around the world.
