After a three-year hiatus from solo releases, Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen has returned with a brand-new single, “Run.” The track marks a heavier and darker chapter in her solo career while maintaining the strong melodies and emotional honesty that have become her signature.
Accompanied by a lyric video, Run showcases a more guitar-driven sound than Jansen’s previous solo material, reflecting both a musical and personal evolution. Lyrically, the song explores themes of liberation, self-discovery, and the courage to stop shrinking oneself to meet the expectations of others.
“For me, Run is about no longer making yourself smaller just to fit into a mold that was never yours,” Jansen explains. “It’s about taking off the mask, following your own path, and having the courage to be seen. Musically, it’s heavier and more direct than my previous work, while still remaining honest, melodic, and completely true to who I am.”
The single was produced by Gordon Groothedde, reuniting Jansen with the producer she last collaborated with on After Forever’s final studio album.
Since launching her solo career, Jansen has enjoyed remarkable success. Following the release of her debut album Paragon and a sold-out theatre tour across the Netherlands, her solo catalogue has accumulated nearly 150 million streams across digital platforms.
Alongside her work with Nightwish, Jansen has continued to establish herself as a compelling solo performer, appearing at major festivals including Wacken Open Air, Masters of Rock, M’era Luna, and Sweden Rock Festival.
Finnish fans will have the opportunity to experience her solo performance this summer when Floor Jansen takes the stage at John Smith Rock Festival on July 18.
