Brazilian death metal force Crypta have opened the door to their next chapter with “A Portrait of Decay,” the first song to feature the band’s newly completed lineup.

The track marks the first release featuring guitarist Victoria Villarreal, who officially joined Crypta in April alongside Fernanda Lira on bass and vocals, Luana Dametto on drums and Tainá Bergamaschi on guitar. Together, the four-piece offer an early glimpse into where the band’s sound could be heading next.

Musically, “A Portrait of Decay” hits with relentless death metal aggression while introducing a darker atmospheric and melancholic edge. Lyrically, the song explores dissociation as a way of enduring pain and suffering, adding a psychological dimension beneath its crushing instrumental attack and Fernanda Lira’s visceral vocals.

Recorded in Belgium in June, the track was engineered, mixed and mastered by Yarne Heylen at Project Zero Studio, with artwork created by Brazilian artist Marcos Miller. An accompanying music video, based on a script written by Dametto, creates a deliberate visual contrast with the intensity of the music.

The single arrives ahead of Crypta’s upcoming North American tour alongside Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Septicflesh and Thrown Into Exile, beginning October 5 in Riverside, California.

“A Portrait of Decay” is available now across streaming platforms and as a strictly limited 7″ vinyl release. More importantly, it offers the first taste of a renewed Crypta—and the beginning of whatever comes next.
