Swiss death metal veterans Nihilo are preparing to unleash their fifth full-length album, “Abyss”, on November 3, 2026, through Xtreem Music. Promising an uncompromising journey into brutality, darkness, and despair, the upcoming release marks another fierce chapter in the band’s more than two-decade-long career.
Formed in 2003, Nihilo have steadily established themselves within the extreme metal underground, building a reputation for their relentless sound and uncompromising approach. From their 2008 debut EP “Nyktophobia” to the critically acclaimed album “Dum Spiro Spero” and last year’s live release “Chaos Unleashed”, the Swiss outfit have continued to sharpen their musical identity. With longtime vocalist Ragulan Vivekananthan leading the charge, “Abyss” promises to push their sonic aggression even further.
Opening with the frantic assault of “Primal Instinct”, the album immediately plunges listeners into a storm of crushing riffs, ferocious drumming, and sinister atmospheres. Tracks such as “Impending Doom” explore darker, almost ritualistic territory, while “Dishonoured Death”, featuring Shyai of Impiety, introduces an additional dose of blackened intensity. Elsewhere, “Veil Of Nothing” combines unsettling melodies with psychological darkness, before “Suffocating Silence” and “Roots In Bone” deliver further waves of unrelenting aggression. The album reaches its ominous conclusion with “Enter The Abyss”, bringing the descent into darkness to a crushing end.
Produced and mixed by Romano Galli and Simon Egli at HardBeat Studio and mastered by Christophe Brandes at Iguana Studios, “Abyss” is accompanied by disturbing artwork created by Rodrigo Pereira Salvatierra, whose previous work includes Lurker Of Chalice, Leviathan, and Perversor.
With their new partnership with Xtreem Music, Nihilo are ready to remind the extreme metal scene that more than twenty years into their existence, their appetite for sonic destruction remains undiminished.
