Finnish progressive folk metal project Jotungrav have released Återfödd (“Reborn”), the first and only single from their upcoming debut album Elegi, due out August 20, 2026 via Inverse Records.

Marking a bold step in the band’s evolution, “Återfödd” leans further into folk metal than any of Jotungrav’s previous material, replacing much of its black metal edge with progressive melodic death metal influences. Inspired by Finnish folk music and traditional waltzes, the eight-minute epic blends uplifting melodies, dynamic arrangements, and even unexpectedly danceable passages.

Commenting on the track, the band said:

“‘Återfödd’ focuses on the indomitable human spirit. It is a reminder that the cruelty of the universe cannot break one who is filled with purpose and remains unyielding. At the same time, the cover artwork reflects how the death of a loved one becomes a turning point for those left behind, where tragedy transforms both lives forever.”

Originally founded by songwriter Matias Stenman, Jotungrav combines progressive metal with elements of folk and black metal, drawing inspiration from the Viking and pagan metal scene while exploring philosophical themes through expansive, cinematic compositions. With Elegi, the band promises its most ambitious work to date.
