Dutch symphonic metal band Delain are embarking on a significant new chapter, announcing a collaborative approach that brings together some of the genre’s most recognisable voices. With Sharon den Adel, Marko Hietala, Anneke van Giersbergen, Fabienne Erni and several other acclaimed musicians joining the project, the band are moving beyond the traditional concept of a fixed lead vocalist.

The announcement also marks the departure of Diana Leah, who has decided to step away from Delain. While the band acknowledge the sadness surrounding her departure, they have expressed their gratitude for the years they spent creating and performing music together.

Rather than searching for a direct replacement, founder, keyboardist and songwriter Martijn Westerholt has chosen to reshape Delain into a more collaborative musical project, allowing different artists to contribute their distinctive voices and creative perspectives.

The first taste of this transformation arrives with “We Are Fire,” a new single featuring Fabienne Erni of Eluveitie, Noa Gruman and Paolo Ribaldini.

Exploring determination, resilience and the courage to embrace change, the track reflects the philosophy behind Delain’s new direction.

“‘We Are Fire’ is about the inner fire that keeps us moving forward, even when the path ahead is uncertain. It’s about daring to cross boundaries, and refusing to give up on what we believe in,” Westerholt explains.

“To me, it captures the spirit of what Delain is becoming. A place where different voices and personalities can come together, each bringing something unique, while sharing the same fire.”

An extraordinary lineup of guest musicians

Alongside Westerholt, the band’s core lineup consists of Ludovico Cioffi, Ronald Landa and Sander Zoer. Their expanding creative circle will feature an impressive collection of musicians from across the symphonic and melodic metal scene:

• Marko Hietala
• Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation)
• Anneke van Giersbergen
• Fabienne Erni (Eluveitie)
• Patty Gurdy
• Noa Gruman (Sabaton’s Legendary Orchestra)
• Paolo Ribaldini
• Johanna Kurkela (Auri, Eye of Melian)
• Ruud Jolie (Within Temptation)

The collaboration will extend beyond studio recordings. Marko Hietala, Fabienne Erni, Noa Gruman and Paolo Ribaldini are also confirmed to join Delain on stage during their February 2027 tour.
