There’s something rare about bands that refuse to fade quietly. Anvil have built a career on exactly that kind of stubborn persistence—and this December, they return to Finland with a tour that looks firmly back to where it all began.

As part of their “Pounding the Past” run, the Canadian metal veterans will perform a series of shows focused entirely on their first three albums: Hard ‘N’ Heavy (1981), Metal On Metal (1982), and Forged in Fire (1983). It’s a setlist rooted in the years when everything still felt raw, loud, and wide open.

Those early records didn’t just define Anvil—they quietly shaped the future of metal itself. Bands like Metallica have long cited them as an influence, a reminder that impact isn’t always measured in charts, but in echoes.

Anvil’s journey hasn’t been smooth. Trends shifted, attention drifted—but they kept going. Their story found a second life with the 2009 documentary Anvil! The Story of Anvil, which pulled back the curtain on decades of resilience, and reignited global interest in the band’s legacy.

Now, with time between albums, the band sees a rare opportunity to celebrate that past properly.

“The timing couldn’t be better,” Anvil note. “We’re between albums, and it gave us the chance to focus on these songs again and celebrate where we came from.”

Before heading back into the studio for their 21st album, the band will bring that history to European stages—Finland included.
