Forged in Kent in 2022, UK doom outfit Iron Slug have steadily tightened their grip on the British underground. Following the well-received EPs “Debauched And Bored” and “Unrepentant Grin“, the band now step forward with their first full-length statement: “Deceit And Misery“, arriving March 27 via Road To Masochist on vinyl and CD.
Spanning five colossal tracks, “Deceit And Misery” embraces the essence of doom—weight, repetition, and emotional abrasion. Opener “A Calming Turmoil” builds with deliberate menace before locking into a crushing groove, while “Love Retires Under Night” channels Sabbath-rooted riffing into darker, sludge-tinged depths. First single “Graceless Bodies” and the soaring “Die The Same” reveal a surprising melodic strength in the vocals, balancing grit with a soulful undertone. Closing hammer-blow “Ritualistic Feeding” stands as a bleak, grinding monolith: every chord and syllable delivered with conviction.
Produced by Jason Frye, the album carries a textured, abrasive edge that feels tactile and immediate. Complemented by stark artwork from Black Crow White, “Deceit And Misery” arrives as a bellowed declaration of intent.
