Finnish melodic metal outfit Dyecrest have released their fifth studio album, Defying Gravity, marking a new chapter for a band that continues to evolve without losing its core identity.

The album is the first to feature vocalist Heidi Aaltonen, whose expressive performance adds a new emotional depth to the band’s sound. It also marks Dyecrest’s debut under Art Gates Records, signaling a fresh step forward after years of steady growth—including past touring alongside W.A.S.P..

Blending power metal, classic heavy metal, and progressive elements, Defying Gravity is described by the band as their most cohesive release to date.

“This album contains both the heaviest and the lightest material we’ve ever done. Heidi’s emotional delivery combined with the band’s powerful sound brings it all together—it simply works,” the band states.

The album is brought to a close by “Enceladus,” now released as a single with an accompanying music video directed by Sami Romppainen. Atmospherically, the track leans into a more spacious and melodic approach, balancing restrained instrumentation with soaring vocals.

“There was something special about the song from the very beginning,” says Pirkka Ohlis. “It grew piece by piece into something powerful. The mood is floating and endless—like drifting at the edge of the unknown, where longing and quiet hope meet.”

Guitarist Henri Arola highlights the intentional use of dynamics:

“We kept the guitars more stripped back in places to give space for the vocals and the overall tension. But of course, there had to be a proper guitar solo. In Dyecrest terms, Enceladus is actually quite direct—it’s a hit song.”

With production handled by respected names Miitri Aaltonen and Mika Jussila, the album delivers both clarity and weight, supporting its wide emotional range.
