British heavy metal legends SAXON have announced their 25th studio album, Gods of Thunder, set for release on January 22, 2027. The band have also unveiled its title track, offering the first taste of their next chapter after five decades of heavy metal.

Drawing inspiration from Celtic mythology, “Gods of Thunder” delivers the kind of commanding riffs and unmistakable heavy metal spirit that have defined SAXON throughout their career.

“‘Gods of Thunder’ is a great story full of the spirit and power of true heavy metal,” says Biff Byford. “Turn it up and bang your head!”

Produced by Byford and mixed by Andy Sneap, the upcoming album draws heavily from history, mythology, fantasy and the darker corners of the past. Its stories range from the execution of Anne Boleyn and the Battle of the Alamo to Cold War espionage and the Berlin Wall.

SAXON will take the album on the road in 2027, with the first leg of the Gods of Thunder World Tour beginning in Wolverhampton on February 13 and concluding at London’s Eventim Apollo on February 27.

After 50 years and 25 studio albums, SAXON clearly have little interest in lowering the volume.
